English

Students finished reading The Giver and Fahrenheit 451. They are about to embark on. summative project to consider debate on screen limits and connect it to the books they've read.

Science

This month in science we did several activities exploring forces and motion. We did this by testing collisions and speed with different sized objects in hands-on lab experiments. We also began our new unit on magnetic fields, which we started with a fun magnet race!

Writing

We are beginning our Resistance vs. Conformity unit, where students will explore what drives people to resist or conform and consider which choice is best. Using discussion, reading, and research aligned to CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.1, W.8.3, RL.8.1, and W.8.7, students will analyze examples of resistance and conformity and write an argumentative essay to support their perspective.

Algebra:

In the month of October, our Algebra students began our second unit on Linear Equations. This unit is very real world focused since many things have a rate of change (which we in math class refer to as the slope) like exerting a certain amount of gallons of gas from your car per the amount of miles you travel!
In the month of November, students will continue this unit with introducing graphing lines in slope intercept form, how to write equations in standard form, and interpret scenarios that can be represented with horizontal lines or vertical lines which do not have a slope!

Pre-Algebra:

Over the month of October, students finished our first unit on Rigid Transformations! They completed the project on this unit pictured to the left which required them to Translate, Reflect, and Rotate a drawing of a taco across the coordinate plane!
This upcoming month students will continue to learn about similarity through Angle Relationships!

Social Studies

In this past month, our students were tasked with evaluating British tyranny before and during the American Revolution. Students read priamry source documents from multiple presepctives and important historical figures such as Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and Samuel Seabury, and others. Looking forward, students will start to learn about our American idenity, shaped by our founding fathers, and the creation of our government after the American Revolution.
